Narowal City, the Birthplace of Baba Guru Nanak

Narowal is a small district city situated in north east corner of Pakistani Punjab. It is the border district sharing its territorial borders with India (International border) Jammu and Kashmir (Working boundary) and district Sialkot and Shekhupura.

This city of narowal is approximately 50 km away from Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJ&K).

The word Narowal was drived from the word NARO which was the name of a person about 900 years ago. The area of city was the ownership of the Naro bajwa. Bajwa is the sub branch of jutt clan inhibited here in more than 22 villages.  This area of Punjab dominant by the jut tribes.

Syed Habib shah worked for the development of the city town narowal. He assisted Naro Singh which is the founder of this city. Before partition a big portion of sikh community also inhibited in the north part of the Narowal city.

Administrative Distribution of Narowal

This city is divided into three tehsils named as Narowal, Zafarwal and Shakargarh.

Actually Shakargarh was the subunit of Gurdaspur district before in united India before partition. As the result of Redcliff Award, Shakargarh was granted to Pakistan. Both Narowal and Shakargarh were the tehsils of District Sialkot from 1947- 1991.

During 1947 to 1991 Narowal was a tehsil and remained under the District Sialkot. In 1991 the status of district was given to narowal and created as independent district from district Sialkot.

Agriculture and Industry in Narowal

Mostly the area under the district narowal earning its livelihood by the agriculture sector. Rice and wheat are the major crops of this area. Besides rice and wheat some other crops also grown here in less area are Sorghum (Jawar), Berseem, Millet (Bajra),watermelons, oranges and Guawa (Amrood).

A vriety of vegetable and pulses also grown in this area.

Narowal is densely populated by the Bella forests along the River Ravi with Indian border. Phulahi kahu and sanatha are the major species of the Bella forest in narowal

Baba Guru Nanak

Baba Guru Nanak is a well-known personality belongs to Narowal. He was the one of founding father of Sikhs religion. The shrine of Baba Guru Nanak is also situated I narowal at Kartarpur village.

A famous Corridor has also opened for the religious tourism for Sikhs. Now it has become a tourist hotspot for the people around the globe.

Ali Pur Sydan Sharif

It is also the religious point for the Muslims. Pir Syed Jamat Ali shah also belongs to the village.Muslims have great sentimental attachment to the Ali pur syedan sharif.

It is located in narowal on narowal Pasrur road. Pir syed Jamat Ali shah also involved in the Pakistan movement and contributed a lot. It is considers that Pir Jamat Ali shah was the first person who took part in Pakistan movement from this area. A shrine was built in the commemoration of pir jamat ali shah. A religious Madrassa was built to teach the Islamic teaching to the people. A big URS usually held every year by the management of shrine to tribute the efforts and struggle made by the Pir Jamat Ali Shah.
